A Brief History

Barangay San Isidro, a mountainous area of Montalban, Rizal now Rodriguez, Rizal had no school of its own until July 31 of 2003 when the former Principal of General Licerio Geronimo Memorial National High School, Mr. Leoncio L. Gervacio, worked for the establishment of a High School Annex, known as San Isidro National High School upon its approval effective S.Y. 2004-2005.

Under the leadership of PTA (Parents Teachers Association) President Mrs. Alona Torres together with the parents requested Barangay Captain Cecilio C. Hernandez for the opening of said barangay High School, who then made endorsement to the Municipal Mayor, Engr. Pedro S. Cuerpo to support the necessity of a secondary school in this barangay, Brgy. Captain Hernandez with his Barangay Councilors passed and approved Resolution No. 14A-03 dated April 14, 2003, “Kapasiyahang Nag-aatas at Nagtatalaga sa Barangay Multi-Purpose Hall Bilang Pansamantalang Silid Aralan ng mga Bata na papasok sa unang antas ng Mataas na Paaralan.” At the same time the Local Gov’t passed Resolution No. 03-66 dated May 22, 2003 authorized by Councilor Alberto P. Carasco which states “Kapasyahang Humiling sa Dept. of Education (DepEd) sa pamamagitan ng Kalihim nito na si Kagalang-galang Edilberto De Jesus upang masimulan na ang pagpapatakbo ng Gen. Licerio Geronimo Memorial NHS – SAN ISIDRO ANNEX sa barangay San Isidro. Thru the able endorsement and recommendation of Dr. EDITH A. DOBLADA Schools Division Superintendent the opening of the said annex was approved. This formally opens the door for a new hope for the San Isidronians.

During the first year of its operation, the annex had limited enrollment to the incoming first year due to inadequate space. This was made available through the generous support of Barangay Captain Cecilio C. Hernandez, who provided for two school rooms that could accommodate at least one section of high school students. By the end of the school year 2003-2004, a good number of 72 students, of which 36 are male and 36 are female successfully completed the first year curriculum, under the supervision of the OIC – Mr. Vivencio Felix.

It was rather difficult and inconvenient for the students to be housed in a shelter where space is limited. The barangay officials witnessed the perseverance and determination of the students to learn under the supervision of the 3 teachers Mr. Jayson Gayuma – provincial item; Ms. Maristella Ramos and Ms. Rosemarie Ramos both volunteer teachers. This serves as encouragement and desire to give a more comfortable and convenient hose. The Brgy. Officials again under the leadership of Brgy. San Isidro.

The first semester of SY 2004-2005 was a time of change and challenge. The high school annex was transferred to its newly constructed classroom 1 storey 6 classrooms Ynares building – under its new homes, the school enrollment began to swell largely because of the transferees coming from Third and Fourth year level. Due to these transferees, the school on its second year of existence opened the 4 year levels on which the enrollment profile is shown below.

Year Enrollment       No. of Teachers/Type
      Bridge       36       1 - principal
      First Year       2       3 - municipal volunteer
      Second Year       114       2 - barangay volunteer
      Third       53
      Fourth       36

Before the end of the 2nd semester, two (2) additional teachers try the effort of PTCA under the leadership of PTCA pres. Alona Torres, were hired by the Brgy. Council to augment and improve the disadvantages student-teacher ratio at the same time. A new school head in the person of Ms. Relita V. Reyes was assigned effective Sept. 1, 2004.

Come S.Y. 2005-2006 enrollment keeps on rising as shown on the table below. As a consequence teachers are also needed and augmented.

Year Enrollment       No. of Teachers/Type
      First Year       167       4 - rational item
      Second Year       72       1 - principal item
      Third Year       101       4 - municipal volunteer
      Fourth Year       57       3 - barangay volunteer

It is for this increase that additional classroom was constructed. A two storey four classrooms building project of Cong. Isidro Rodriguez which was occupied inaugurated June 2005 and July 8, 2005 respectively another two storey building raised S.Y. 2007-2008 from the same donor. For the past three years the performance of the school in the Division Achievement Test posted remarkable improvement.

This remarkable and continuous increase over the previous result is a joint effort of the teachers through the able supervision of Ms. Relita V. Reyes – Head Teacher III and Teacher-in-Charge of the school.

The had already supervised three (3) graduation rites S.Y. 2004-2005 was the first graduation which produces 33 number of graduates, but the first batch of pioneer graduates is S.Y. 2006-2007.

With just three years of existence, the school showed a notice of worthy achievement. San Isidro National High School is looking forward for more achievements and challenges especially now that the school ranks 18 in DAT among the secondary schools in Division and was awarded certificate of recognition for garnering an increase of 5.43 MPS over the DAT previous result and took the 11th place in the over-all standing of Good Performing Schools in the Division of Rizal.

Creating an effective school does not happen in an instant. It is not an accident but it can be built. Only if school personnel, school heads and teachers alike including parents and the community work as a team to transform the school’s vision into a reality.
